ESG Commitments

Stephens Rickard

At Stephens Rickard, we are fully committed to operating a sustainable business and doing the right thing in an environmental, social and governance context.
We endeavour for our ESG strategy both internally and externally to go far beyond vacuous virtue signalling. From partnering with organisations that promote social mobility, to replanting kelp on the seabed to stimulate biodiversity, we are actively involved in a wide range of initiatives. We also drive diversity and inclusion in the workplace, support mental health and wellbeing organisations, and maintain full transparency in our work and the types of businesses we partner with.
Environmental Commitments
Our drive to contribute toward the creation of a sustainable planet.

‍As we all should be, we at Stephens Rickard are cognizant of the effect our everyday, business-related, or other actions are having on the condition of our planet. We actively pursue initiatives that can contribute toward the reversal, or at the very least, slowing down of climate change.

During the COVID-19 pandemic our staff began to work from home, a practice we transitioned to seamlessly. We now operate a hybrid model, as studies have shown that working from home reduces the number of cars on the road and energy usage in the office and significantly reduces carbon emissions and the use of fossil fuels. This, combined with the positive mental effect it can have on people, has led us to adopt a long-term hybrid working strategy.

We also encourage each other and those around us to follow ‘green’ practices when possible, including a strong focus on recycling in and outside the office.
GreenTheUK
In 2022, we began a long-term partnership with GreenTheUK, an organisation with the aim of connecting businesses with local, tangible wildlife projects that deliver real impact. Our first initiative supported the surveillance and restoration of kelp forests on the Sussex coastline, in collaboration with the Blue Marine Foundation.

In 2024 and 2025, thanks to our funding, GreenTheUK were once again able to partner with the Blue Marine Foundation, this time on an extraordinary initiative to scrub, clean, weigh, and measure 10,000 European flat oysters, as part of the wider Solent Seascape Project. This activity is part of their heroic efforts to restore native oyster reefs across the Solent, which are essential for filtering and purifying water, supporting biodiversity, and safeguarding our coastline. Volunteers played a vital role in this effort, working hands-on to revive these critical marine habitats and contribute directly to the health of our oceans. In 2026, as part of our continued partnership with GreenTheUK, we have pledged to support the planting of 1,000 trees, helping to strengthen and restore natural landscapes across the UK. These newly planted trees will contribute to enhanced biodiversity, provide valuable habitats for wildlife and play a vital role in building more resilient ecosystems for the future. Through initiatives like these, we are proud to support organisations that align closely with our values and have a positive, meaningful impact on the environment.

MammalWeb

In 2025, we began a new partnership with MammalWeb, a charity founded by scientists at Durham University in collaboration with Durham Wildlife Trust. Together, they hope to address and acknowledge gaps relating to the status and ecology of UK and European mammal populations by collecting data from motion-sensing camera traps, used to photograph and monitor wild mammals.

These cameras do not trap animals but are used to capture images of those that pass in front of them. The project relies on public participation, with contributors deploying camera traps in their local areas and helping to identify the species captured in the images. This citizen-science approach enables researchers to build a clearer picture of the distribution of wild mammals and the factors affecting their populations.

The data gathered through MammalWeb supports a deeper understanding of mammal ecology and how species are responding to current environmental and climate-related changes. MammalWeb’s transition from a non-profit company to a registered charity has coincided with a period of rapidly increasing costs, driven by a welcome growth in data provisions and platform usage, which we are proud to help contribute towards.

Social Commitments

Our efforts to improve the lives and wellbeing of our employees and the communities around us.
We take great pride and commit active effort to support the lives of those who work for us, with us and around us.

We stick to our values, encourage and promote healthy work life balances within our business, and commit a portion of revenue to worthy, charitable causes.

Our passion and commitment to diversity and inclusion manifests itself in many ways – all the searches we conduct include a diversity report on the relevant market segment. We also strongly believe in the importance of promoting social mobility and have a partnership, through our employees, with Career Ready, a registered charity that supports secondary school aged pupils from less advantaged backgrounds to gain insights into the world of work that are not often readily available.
